They’re endocrine disruptors, which means they can affect the body’s hormone and reproductive systems. Not only that, they’re also easily released into the environment – where they can have a toxic effect.

Phosphates are great for controlling the PH level in beauty products, but they’re not so great for the environment. When these inorganic compounds make their way down the drain and into oceans and lakes, they can wreak havoc on the water’s delicate ecosystem.

Carcinogens are substances that can cause cancer. Scientists have identified hundreds of known carcinogens – many of which can be found in products on bathroom shelves the world over.

Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that can interfere with the hormonal system – increasing the risk of cancer, birth defects, and fertility issues. There are a number of confirmed and suspected endocrine disruptors out there, used in everything from pesticides, to clothing, to skincare.
